Longtime Renwick Resident John Pike Dies at Farm Home

One of the community’s oldest residents John Hefty Pike died at his farm north of Renwick at 5 am on Monday. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 2 pm at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Renwick with Rev. L. B. Mitchell officiating. Blaker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Vikings Take Pair From Bobcats Here Friday Night

Boone Valley's Bobcats suffered a pair of basketball losses to Corwith-Wesley in a Friday tilt. Corwith's girls won 45 44 led by Mary Will with 31 points while Boone Valley's Sandra Kraft scored 14. The boys fell 68 45 as Ron Kassie and Dean Neuberger led Boone Valley with 17 and 15 points. Corwith's four double figure scorers built a 15 point first quarter lead, led 33 24 at halftime, and extended to win by 23. Local attendance included Mr and Mrs Loren Schipull and several families at the Des Moines school board convention and weekend visitors in several homes. Lineage baptism noted for Susan Elizabeth Kraft at St Paul Lutheran Church with sponsors from Kanawha and Eagle Grove.

Neighbors Help Donald Anderson Farm Harvest Corn

Twenty neighbors relatives and friends gathered at the Donald Anderson farm north of Hardy to harvest one hundred twenty acres of corn using elevators pickers wagons and readers. The Happy Hour Club provided lunch and gas donations came from Farm Service Kenny Varland and DX Service Hardy Bill Walkner. Donald Anderson was injured weeks ago when a grain elevator fell on him and crushed his ankle leaving him unable to work.

EUE Congregation Holds Annual Meeting and Social Events

The EUE Church held its annual meeting in the Fellowship Room with a 7 oclock potluck supper before the business. Election of officers was led by Mrs Ernest Eggerth including Sunday School Superintendent Mrs W H Attle Assistant Superintendent Mrs Mayer Secretary Judy French Treasurer Mrs Henry J Bloom Trustee Gerhard Mayer Class Leader Mrs Ernest Eggerth Assistant Class Leader Lena Geigel. Various social gatherings followed, including belated birthday greetings for Mrs May White and a pre Thanksgiving dinner at the Putestuck home in Britt. The Literary Guild and KYN club met, and local clubs in Boone Township hosted lessons on hobbies and holiday customs.

Carol Arne Hurt Riding Horse Near Renwick

Carol Arne daughter of Mr and Mrs Elmo Arne of Renwick is in fair condition at Ft Dodge Lutheran hospital after a horse accident Saturday afternoon north of town. She suffered severe cuts and a possible concussion from being thrown when the horse tripped.

Firemen Oyster Supper Brightens Renwick Club Night

The Renwick fire department hosted its annual oyster supper in M. M. Green’s basement with all but two firefighters in attendance. Community members and visiting relatives shared meals and social time, while local events and family gatherings filled the weekend, including church receptions, weddings, and guests in homes across Humboldt and Eagle Grove.

Hospital Notes Ramona Mills Leaves Bedmond Hospital

Ramona Mills, the young daughter of Ali and Mrs Ray Mills, was discharged from Bedmond Hospital after a two week confinement for pneumonia and related complications. Mrs Mills remains hospitalized with their daughter.
