Baptist Church in Renwick umbaldt city hosts Sunday sermons at 11 am and 1 pm with Sunday School at noon Ernest Mills oversees Sunday School and prayer meetings. Covenant meetings occur on the last Saturday each month at 8 o'clock pm under Pastor CM Wetcox.
A Humboldt Iowa letter from S H Tarr dated October 26 1895 argues against a Prohibition party vote. It accuses both major parties of aligning with brewers distillers and saloonkeepers and calls on Christian voters to rebuke what it terms a covenant with death and agreement with hell. It cites Taft and contrasts Democratic licenced rum traffic with Republican perceived moral compromise.
The Supreme Court closed its October term with a major decision in Resaltha Grimes versus North western Legion of Honor, holding the defendant an insurance company subject to general Iowa insurance laws. The ruling affects Knights of the Maccabees and other lodges, demanding compliance and registration of policies and membership certificates. The case arose from a Grimes policy issued August 30 1893 and death October 7 1893, with questions on whether the defendant operated as mutual life insurer or secret fraternal institution. The court sustained the demurrer, directing conformity to state insurance statutes. Also noted: court order assigning cases from the October term for the next term.
