Tornado damage and illnesses thread through Estherville area
Roy Rice travels to Eagle Grove to visit ill sister-in-law Mrs. Russel Smith in Amega. Nearby families Mr and Mrs H D Black and others toured Estherville territory after last Thursday’s tornado that killed four, injured fifty, and caused extensive damage. Otto Leutwyier shipped cattle to Chicago while Clowes family and Jerry Gorrell visited Fort Dodge. Donald Brayton and children visited Sumner relatives, and Guy Johnson visited Marshalltown with Mrs Johnson and Marion.

Death of Fred Southwick in Renwick Iowa
Fred Pringle Southwick died Sunday morning at his Renwick home after a brief illness. Born January 6, 1861 near Olin Iowa, he lived in Renwick about 44 years and worked in the grain and stock business. He is survived by three children, two sisters, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Methodist church with Rev. C. R. Yeager, burial in Goldfield cemetery.

Humboldt County May Have Paved Roads Without Extra Taxes
Senator Knudson of Jewel and State Highway Commission member told Thor Booster Club that Humboldt County can secure paved roads with no additional property tax. A 38 million set aside by the 45th General Assembly would cover principal and interest on county road bonds from state gas tax and motor license fees, ensuring bond retirement by 1940. The plan would not require local tax increases while employing local labor over two years, with about 200 workers and roughly 350000 in county wages, and would allow counties to receive aid for poor relief if bonded.
