Elaine Smith and Dennis McCurry wed in Hardy Methodist

Elaine Smith daughter of Mr and Mrs Harrold Smith of Renwick and Dennis McCurry son of Mr and Mrs Duane McCurry wed at Hardy Methodist Church on Sunday February 23 at 2 pm. Rev Roy Biesemeyer officiated the double ring ceremony. They will reside on the Carroll Helmke farm east of Renwick after March 15.

Baseball and Track Open Indoor Practice Session

Inside practice began Wednesday March 5 with baseball and track workouts. Weekly sessions are expected over the coming weeks as weather warms. Plans for this year's meets remain tentative.

Renwick Woman's Club meets with Lena Geigel

Lena Geigel entertained the Renwick Woman's Club Thursday. Mrs Merlin Neuberger presented a lesson on Mental Health Conditions in Iowa and the roll call asked What We Can Do Toward Mental Health. Members voted to give $25 to the Renwick Public Library and elected officers: President Mrs Charlie Trask Vice President Mrs R L Rossman Secretary Mrs Paul Heggen Treasurer Mrs Gerhard Mayer. An original poem titled Renwick Woman's Club was read and dedicated by Mrs Eddie L Bygness.

Historical Society Iowa gains sixty eight new members

Dr William Peterson announces that 68 persons were elected to membership in the State Historical Society of Iowa during February. Included among them is Dr Sara Sutton of Renwick.

Renwick Depot protest and local operetta planned

Men from Renwick travel to Algona to protest Chicago and Northwestern’s plan to close the Renwick depot and end service. Conrad Amend of Des Moines will represent the protesters. Also, Boone Valley vocal groups stage Smoky Mountain at Renwick gym on Friday March 14 with Kay McGowan and others in the cast.

The American Legion and Auxiliary announce their annual family pot luck supper in honor of the Legion birthday. The event is Thursday evening March 13 at 7 00 in the Legion Hall.

Boone Valley Students to District Speech Contest

Three Boone Valley students Ron Larson Karen Tinches and James McGowan will attend the district speech contest at Spirit Lake on Saturday March 8 accompanied by Mrs Lloyd Jensen the group’s instructor. The district event is the second of three rounds with Division I winners advancing automatically.

BTW Club Meetings and Varying Social Visits

The BTW Club met with hostess Mrs Verni McPeak and leader Mrs Frank Engstrom spoke on Vegetable Garden. Members and guests traveled to Stilson Minnesota and Eagle Grove for visits and dinner events. Church groups attended district and association gatherings with several local couples hosting or visiting over the weekend.

Ed Oppedahl Seeks Humboldt County State House Seat

Edward Oppedahl a Renwick farmer announced his bid for State Representative as a Republican from Humboldt County in the June primaries. He calls for at least 25 percent state aid to public schools while preserving local control and full payment of the Agriculture Land Credit to balance rural and urban school costs. He was defeated by Fred Hall in the last election after several terms.

Renwick bowlers earned a spot in the money at the Eagle Grove bowling tournament. In all events the top listed finisher was N. H. Hesse taking sixth place.

Renwick Baptist Church led by Pastor Glenn Emmert holds worship at 10:00 AM and Sunday School at 11:00 AM with the sermon I am the light of the world. Renwick BYF hosts youth from area churches at 7:30 PM to view the film Seventeen followed by refreshments. Junior Missions meet Wednesday at 4:00 PM at the pastor’s home. Ladies Mission Circle meets Friday March 7 at 2:00 PM with Francis Kelling reading, Dorothy McGowan giving devotions, Eura Hoffman and Grace Trask serving as hostesses.

Final Rites Held for Mrs. Caroll Krause in Renwick

Funeral services for Mrs. Caroll Farr Krause of Renwick were held March 1 1958 at St. Pauls Lutheran Church Renwick with Rev Langholz and Rev Brauer officiating. Burial was in Vernon Cemetery. Survived by husband Fritz F Krause and numerous Farr and Krause relatives from Wisconsin and Iowa.

Farmers Co operative Company Annual Dinner Meeting Draws Large Crowd

About 275 members and guests attended the Farmers Co operative Company annual meeting and dinner at Boone Valley High School. Wilbur Moore presented the financial report. Ray Mills and Jim Nelson Jr. were reelected to three year director terms. Virgil Tate presided. News on the Quality Egg program was shared by C W Bartley. Dividend checks will be issued Saturday along with door prizes and a four o'clock drawing.
