Izaak Walton League to Receive Charter at Oakdale Meeting

The Oakdale chapter of the Izaak Walton League will hold a special meeting on Tuesday evening July 8 with a chicken supper at 6 30 served by the Evangelical United Brethren Ladies Aid. Charter will be presented by Herry E Rector and John W Tobin of Vinton.

Cub Scouts Fall Picnic At Lawrence Nerem Home

A Monday Cub Scout pack meeting at Lawrence Nerem home drew 11 cubs and 32 guests. Cub master Wilber Nissen awarded Wolf badges and arrows to James McGowan Clair Netem Lynn Darland Jerry Tjelle Darrell Behounek and Ronnie Nerem. The group enjoyed a weiner roast and a target game with homemade bows and arrows, with an Indians crafts theme.

Renwick Independent school farm closed, new composition shingle roof and gutters installed by Friend Pine Roofing Co of Sioux City. Tile roof removed to stop leaks. Plumbing checked and repaired. Janitor Kenneth Harris redecorating rooms and refinishing floors.

New Veterans Farm Training Instructor Named at Renwick

Charles Hinkley of Jesup Iowa takes over the veterans farm training class at Renwick on July 1. He has directed the program in Jesup for four years. Mrs. Hinkley and a son will move to Renwick once housing is found, while Wayne Doty leaves Renwick for a feed salesman post in Sioux City with Swift and Company.

Local girl weds in Yuma Arizona ceremony

Miss Shirley Joanne Rasmussen daughter of Sven Rasmussen Goldfield Iowa married Donald Rohy son of J A Rohy Clarion Iowa on Sunday June 22 in Yuma Arizona. Rev R K Martinez officiated in a flower decorated chapel. Rasmussen wore a white sharkskin suit with white accessories attended by Dorothy Thorson Sioux City Iowa. Gerald Coburn Cherokee Iowa attended Rohy both men in the U S Navy. After the ceremony the couple traveled into Mexico and will reside at 319 Avalon Court Mission Beach Blvd San Diego California. Mrs Rohy is a Renwick High School class of 1951 graduate and has worked for Bell Telephone Webster City.

Celebration at Eagle Grove July Fourth

The Saddle Club of Eagle Grove will stage a horse show and rodeo at the sale pavilion grounds on July 4. A parade is planned for 12 noon and the show starts at 1 pm inviting all saddle clubs and riders to participate.

Nine first year 4-H members visited Des Moines with Ole Carlson to tour the John Deere Plant and other sites. Attendees included Don Newton and Bruce McGowan among others. A welcome award for first year members will continue and reflect good club work. Rural couples met for a picnic and heard Paul Voronaeff discuss life under communism. The next TV food program will feature broccoli and cauliflower on Your Home Hour.

Red Cross swimming classes attract large turnout

Attendance at Red Cross swimming classes continues to grow with a makeup session on Tuesday morning drawing 78 students. Two buses transported the group and Friday sessions in July were canceled for July 4th, with resumed classes set for July 11th. progress in learning to swim is reported as favorable.

Weight County launches 11th annual TB case finding program

The Lith annual contact case finding program in Weight County was announced by Mrs. Bert Martin, president of the Weight County Tuberculosis and Health Association. Jeanne Strom, RN, will lead the countywide search for exposed or unknown TB cases. Family physicians are urged to skin test patients. positive results warrant a chest X ray. All information collected is confidential.

Farmers View Oat Test Plot In Humboldt County

Humboldt County farmers are invited to tour an oat test plot arranged with Rutland Boys 2H Club at the Dennis Show farm north of Hoops Sale born in Humboldt. The July 9 meeting at 7:00 p.m. features oat varieties from Canada to Missouri, including Iowa 105 and newer station releases.

Wright County Farm Bureau Field Day At Northern Town Farm

Wright County farmers visit the Northern Town Experimental Farm at Kanawha for an all day field program. Extension specialists discuss corn borer control seed treatments and weed and insect control while tours showcase oat trials, Clinton oat varieties, new barley types, soybeans, flax, and green manure legume tests. A noon lunch is provided by the Northern Iowa Experimental Association.

Lightning Strikes Lake Church Belfry Fire Report

Lightning struck the belfry of the Ice Lutheran church early Tuesday morning starting a fire. A cream hauler notified resident Hiram Wig as Renwick and Goldfield fire departments fought the blaze. The alarm came at about 5:49 am. Fire confined to the belfry with no main-structure damage. Congregation saved, floor repaired, top covered. Fire crews praised for rapid response and wind conditions helping limit loss.

Business Places Will Close July Fourth Observance

The Fourth of July will see most businesses closed with the post office open for mail collection only. No window service or rural delivery will occur, mail distribution limited to boxholders, and all outgoing mail must be in the office by noon.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Legler announce the birth of a baby boy named Wilson John. He weighed eight pounds fourteen ounces and was born Thursday June 26 at the Lartegary hospital in Fort Dodge.
