Rites Held for Fred Rasmussen 76 in Renwick

Fred F Rasmussen died December 30 1964 at Des Moines Veterans Hospital at age 76. He served in WWI with the 80th Division in Europe and Occupation forces in Germany. He married Emmalou Buscroft in 1925 and lived in Renwick where he worked as rural mail carrier 40 years and chaired local civic groups. Survived by his wife and sister Jennie Ream with many nieces and nephews. Funeral service at Renwick Funeral Home officiated by Rev Wilbur Keine with interment Vernon Cemetery.

The State Board of Social Welfare unanimously approves a plan to provide Iowa old age assistance recipients with Medicare benefits past 65. Starting July 1 1966 the state will “buy in” to the voluntary insurance portion Part B of Public Law 99 97 Medicare pays a $3 monthly charge. Benefits include physician services home health laboratory X ray dental prosthetics ambulance equipment rental wheel chairs oxygen and more, with emphasis on encouraging voluntary insurance participation.
