Funeral Rites for Leonard Markmann Dec 30th

Leonard Gustave Markmann born April 3 1917 Renwick Iowa died December 27 1940 from an auto accident near Algoma while en route to Madeira Minnesota to marry Mabel Kubly. A World War II veteran and POW in Germany for 27 months, he returned to farm near Renwick. Funeral December 3 at St Pauls Lachetan Church Renwick with Rev Reents. burial at Vernon Cemetery. Survivors include his mother Kathryn Mannn his bride-to-be Mabel Kubly two brothers Ervin and George and many relatives.

Commercial Club Dinner Held Monday Night

The Commercial Club held its regular monthly meeting Monday night in the Council Room after a dinner at the People's Cafe. President Harold Goetisch led, minutes were read and approved. Reports on the skating pond showed it ready for final flooding if weather allows. Renwick sign work moves toward completion. Several bills were paid, free show treat tickets reconciled, a committee was formed to explore a location for a lighted baseball field, and other business was discussed before adjournment.

Student Recognition Sunday Observed at Renwick and Hardy

Student Recognition Sunday was observed at Renwick and Hardy Methodist Churches with college students from three state schools presenting talks on religious activities. Marilyn Long from Iowa University, Lorraine Blesie from Iowa State Teachers College, and James Kleen from Iowa State College led the Renwick service, while Hardy organizers included Jerry Clancy and Alma and Ann Wyatt. Rev. P. W. Neal introduced the speakers and summarized topics.

Bram Named Instructor for Veterans Agriculture Program

Jake Bram has been named instructor for a veterans training program in agriculture at Fort Dodge High School. The program began January 1. Bram completed an agricultural education course at Iowa State College and is a veteran of World War II.

Eleanora Gist and Walter Harwood Wed in Renwick Iowa

Eleanora Gist and Walter Harwood married December 22 at three o'clock in the afternoon at the Baptist parsonage in Renwick Iowa with Rev. Blumhagen officiating. The couple, attended by Mr and Mrs Wm Hefti of Goldfield, plan residence on the Hefti farm south of Renwick. The bride is the daughter of Berry and Lovilia Gist. Harwood worked at the Hefti farm before and after eight years in the army in World War I.

Amvets Auxiliary Plans January Meeting and Prep
