Renwick Public School presents its annual Christmas program on Thursday evening December 21 with a pageant titled Christmas in Many Lands performed by the grades. High school musical groups will also perform seasonal numbers and admission is free for the community.
Vernon girls beat Renwick 48 40 while Renwick boys narrowly defeated Vernon 35 33 in a doubleheader. Girls led 28 19 at halftime before Renwick narrowed the gap. Vernon finished strong and held on for the win. Boys game stayed close, Vernon led after three quarters but Renwick surged late to pull out the 35 33 victory.
Two local boys, Bill Green Jr and Ronald Schultz, were injured when Bill’s car collided with a freight train Monday near Renwick on Highway 60. Ronald suffered a skull fracture and facial injuries and was taken to Lutheran Hospital Fort Dodge. Bill had minor cuts and bruises.
Vernon boys basketball squads lost to Livermore with Livermore’s second team leading 12 points by Falb and Vought scoring 21 for Livermore. Vernon’s first-team scorers included Silhelm Wilhelm Wigans Brechter Zweifel. Next Vernon game hosts Gilmore City on December 25 with both girls and boys teams scheduled.
Mrs Minnie Saxton of Renwick and Charles J Foley of Hardy united in marriage at ten o'clock Friday at the Methodist church. CE Custer performed the single line ceremony. Attendants were Mr and Mrs Robert Foley of Bradgate, siblings of the bridegroom. The bride wore salmon crepe de chine with a tiny red rosebud. The groom's attire was a business suit. They left for San Diego to spend two months, then return to Renwick where they will be at home.
Mr and Mrs Chas. Trask welcome a baby boy named Donald Royal. The Heftys, Mr and Mrs Clarence Hefty, report a baby boy born Wednesday December 20 at Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge weighing seven pounds.
All Renwick business places closed all day December 25 for Christmas. A final Eve show is planned at Ren Theater on December 24 with a Christmas night performance. Posteifive operates at train time and late afternoon for mail dispatch. No window service or coral delivery.
Ren wick stores will close Wednesday nights from December 27 through April. The policy, used for two prior winters, applies to all Ren wick locations.
The Humboldt County Tuberculosis Association urges timely returns for Christmas Seals as the drive ends soon. The effort runs year round, with Seals funding TB work and promoting community support to curb tuberculosis and heart disease. A May meeting approved combining the Iowa Tuberculosis and Health Association with the Iowa Heart Association for the next fiscal year, removing a separate Heart Association fund drive.
The Ladies Aid group of the church requests donations of waste paper. Those willing to contribute should contact Rev. Sundarma for pickup or delivery arrangements.
The Plette River Tank Co. of Humboldt completed work on the water tower, restoring service and repairing a cracked pipe section. All lights around the tower and the large red light atop are now in working order, with minor fixes made as needed.
