Wildfire readiness at New River Gorge grows with season
Pete Hart, superintendent at New River Gorge National River, outlines park fire management readiness including Grandview based office, four engines, and staff prepared to protect wildlife habitat and watersheds. Firefighters train annually, respond to park fires, assist District Forestry, and may deploy nationwide during large incidents. Open burning is banned 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. during fire season.
