Summers County listens to flood plan for Greenbrier Valley

Summers County Commission heard flood control coordinator Stephanie Connolly of the Potomac Highlands Development Authority outline a $3 million federal grant funded plan for the Greenbrier Valley watershed. She described building a sustainable redevelopment plan and potential structural alternatives to a mainstem dam while FEMA notes were resolved and local compliance improved.

Greenbrier teen gets prison for church thefts

Charles Telford Mentz, 19, of Caldwell, was sentenced to one to ten years for stealing $4,000 in sound equipment from High Sanctuary Church on December 6, 1997. He pleaded guilty to grand larceny and helped sell the gear after another thief took it. Mentz remains to be sentenced in Greenbrier County for additional charges.
