Mountaineer Gas seeks $11.4 million rate increase
Mountaineer Gas Co has applied to the Public Service Commission for an 11.4 million dollar rate hike and a three year moratorium through 2001. The plan calls for 9 million dollars yearly in capital improvements and would raise the average residential bill about 1.92 dollars monthly from 55 dollars. The company says it remains the state's lowest price among large gas utilities while stressing market volatility and the benefit of price stability for customers. The PSC moratorium concept aims to streamline regulation and reduce costly annual filings. Mountaineer serves about 200000 customers across 45 West Virginia counties including Clay, Fayette, Greenbrier, McDowell, Mercer, Monroe, Raleigh, Summers and Wyoming.
