Bystander hero saves driver after Turnpike crash

Christopher Bebner 22 of St. Albans fell asleep at the wheel and rear ended a log–hauler truck, sending his 1993 Jeep into a barrier wall on the Turnpike. A former medic, James Conley of Winnebago, flagged another truck for a fire extinguisher, containing the blaze as Bebner was extricated by Mat Volunteer Fire Department. Bebner survived with a cut above the eye and pains. he was cited for improper control.

Va woman pleads guilty in prescription drug case

Rhonda Faye Lester, 30, of Selma Virginia, pleaded guilty to obtaining by false pretenses for presenting a forged Percocet prescription at a Fairlea Kmart pharmacy. Four felony counts were dropped as part of the plea. Sentencing set for June 1 with a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $2500 fine.
