Market Basket to merge with The Kroger Co.

Market Basket a Los Angeles chain will affiliate with The Kroger Co of Cincinnati. Kroger to issue 4.3 percent voting preferred stock to Market Basket holders, exchangeable for Kroger common stock over 10 years. Kroger plans to expand in California, with 56 Market Basket stores and a 1963 fiscal year revenue near $121.3 million.

X15 testing pilots named for Edwards AFB program

Two pilots, Air Force Captain Joe H. Engle and civilian Milton C. Thompson, named for the X15 rocket plane testing program, will fly later this year. Both have previously served as base pilots on X15 operations and Thompson also worked on the X20 Dyna Soar project.
