President Nixon announced an immediate price ceiling on beef pork and lamb to curb rising food costs. The order covers processors wholesalers and retailers while exempting farmers, with signage required by April 9 and IRS checks to enforce.
J N Froome Jr president of the Red Bluff Round-Up Association named the committeemen for activities at the grounds for April 21 and 22. The list includes arena director Jim Owens and 12 others handling tasks from timers and announcers Carroll Owens to livestock and barns George Growney and chutes Joe Giambroni. Froome noted the men have 15 to 32 years of experience contributing to the show’s success.

In Sacramento the Senate Rules Committee defeated an effort to pack the Reapportionment Committee for a redistricting bill backed by Gov Ronald Reagan. Sen Robert S Stevens changed his vote and Sen Peter H Behr opposed adding members, reversing an earlier 3-2 approval.

In Saigon a Border Ranger camp 50 miles north faced a 1427 round barrage of mortars rockets and artillery in one of the fiercest shellings since the January cease fire. Fighting continued across Indochina with four major South Vietnam battles and U.S. air raids in Cambodia. The last 2501 American troops left South Vietnam while 1034 remain on special duty at the embassy.
Corning Chamber of Commerce to hold its quarterly meeting Monday at noon in the Nugget Room on Solano Street. After lunch and the meeting, members will tour Nostalgia Inc., a shadow box factory at Fig Lane and Columbia Avenue. Secretary-manager Henry Kibsgaard said wives of members are invited.

One plane to Kelly AFB Texas with 18 POWs, including two civilians, due about 1:30 p m local time. The other to Hickam AFB Hawaii and Travis AFB California with 14 to reach about 4:30 p m local time.
Central Tehama Health Service Center begins operating on May 16 in Veterans Hall, Los Molinos, with weekly 3 to 5 p.m. sessions. An April 2 meeting at the Los Molinos elementary school invites all interested citizens.
