Minimum Wage Rise Set to Reach 2.20 by July 1974
The House passed a bill raising the federal minimum wage from 1.60 to 2.20 an hour by July 1 1974 with 2.6 million private sector workers affected. The Senate is expected to approve the higher wage. a Republican alternative to reach 2.20 in two years was defeated 218-199.

Craft Tools Stolen in Bidwell School Burglary
Red Bluff Police report a Bidwell School burglary theft of about 150 dollars in leather tools and goods. Crafts teacher Patrick Stine says 75 tool pieces 12 western belt buckles and 12 pieces of leather were taken from a crafts room cabinet. Entry was via window with the cabinet lock pried open and materials scattered on the floor.

Farm Prices Resume Sharp Upward Trend
Farm prices rose in May after an April dip, lifting wholesale food prices since spring 1972 by 39 percent, the biggest 12 month gain on record. Industrial prices also climbed 2.1 percent, with farm, processed foods, and feeds up 4.7 percent in May. Eggs and fresh fruits declined. Senator Mansfield urged new wage price controls with congressional support for the administration.

The House Appropriations Committee approved a 9.4 billion dollar farm protection bill to fund farm, environmental and consumer programs in 1974. Some Nixon proposals would be terminated and the measure is about 120 million below Nixon's budget request and headed for House action early next week.

Fire damages Los Molinos laundry and two grass blazes
A blaze at U-Wash Laundry in Los Molinos caused about 5000 dollars in damage and was blamed on lint in a dryer. Four Division of Forestry units and local volunteers responded. Two other fires in Corning and at Wilcox Oaks Golf Course burned grass, with cigarette discard suspected in the golf course fire.

Flaming Tanker Crash Closes I 5 Near Redding
A fiery crash on I 5 south of Redding spilled 7500 gallons of flammable alcohol after a Consolidated Freightways tanker collided with two state trucks. Driver Gerald Davis 38 of Concord and Larry Brown 47 of Redding were hospitalized in satisfactory condition as Highway Patrol closed the freeway for three hours to wash away the liquid.
