Car Fire Damages Vehicle in Antelope

An electrical wire fire in a car on State Route 36 near the California Division of Forestry Station in Antelope caused about 200 dollars in damage yesterday at 10 35 a.m. Two division units extinguished the fire which burned much of the rear section of the vehicle. California Supreme Court holds that welfare fraud by false eligibility statements may be prosecuted as a misdemeanor under welfare statutes rather than as grand theft. The defendant’s failure to report a man living in her home led to initial grand theft charges, but Tobriner wrote that the specialized welfare fraud law precludes a conviction under the broader grand theft statute.

John Marsh Becomes Red Bluff Weather Station Head

John Marsh named new official in charge of Red Bluff weather bureau replacing retired William Cupples. Marsh arrives from Reno after 14 years in the Weather Service with prior posts in Winslow, Bishop, and Santa Maria and a 1946 Air Force discharge. He has forecasted for Reno soaring meets including the 1966 National Soaring Meet and led Stead Air Force Weather Station during recent Reno Air Races.

Agnew Opens 10 Nation Asia Pacific Tour From Honolulu

Vice President Spiro Agnew starts a 37 000 mile journey with Honolulu as the first stop. Airlift For French Bread In Oakland Startup Airlines

Arabesco Airlines, claiming to be the nation’s only Black owned carrier, runs nightly Oakland to Los Angeles cargo hops delivering over 800 pounds of San Francisco sourdough. President Donald Grant says return trips to the Bay Area are empty as efforts to bring back bread such as Jewish rye are uncertain. Grant and partners formed the company in 1967 after funds and financing obstacles, finally gaining a $47,500 loan from Opportunity Through Ownership (OTO) aided by seven banks and one corporation to start operations with two C45 aircraft.
