In Saigon the 24 hour Christmas truce started with four enemy attacks in the first hours. Viet Cong actions followed the cease-fire. two enemy and two regional force soldiers were killed. U S forces reported minimal incidents while North Vietnam routes remained targeted from Laos.
Mostly cloudy today with possible afternoon and night showers and a chance of thunderstorms at night. Highs near 54 degrees with lows around 40, season precipitation and river readings noted for Lake Red Bluff Bend Bridge and Woodson Bridge.
The Associated Press reports wet conditions persist in the Pacific Northwest with rain from central California to the coast and snow in mountain sections. Travel warnings remain for the Northern California Sierra and Oregon mountains due to heavy snow.
Tehama County Agriculture Commissioner Don Hill told supervisors the state requires a survey and detection program to replace inspection stations. The plan would use 2,326 man days annually, but Hill suggested 68 man hours are feasible now. One supervisor opposed the resolution, arguing the state mandate is ineffective. He later clarified the vote was against the mandate, not against Hill. Also, Corning Hospital District sought authority to borrow 25,000 for repairs, to be repaid next year.
A burglar stole rings an Elgin wristwatch and a camera from Thomas Fortson in Red Bluff. A Harley Sportster was taken from Vernon Lane. suspect Richard Schaub 20 of Niles was caught near Vallejo by the Highway Patrol and faces marijuana charges.
County businesses close at 6 p.m. and post offices delay mail for Thursday and Friday. The Red Bluff post master notes limited delivery with open lobbies for deposits. Federal workers get a four day weekend and services resume Saturday after President Reagan's executive order. The California Department and county offices plan Friday hours and discretionary leave for staff.
Anthony Charles Andrews of Chico and Davis Edward Ford of Sacramento are named on a prisoner list released by antiwar leaders returnees from Hanoi. The list includes numerous Californians, many from the San Diego area, among others. In Amsterdam two Californians and a New Zealander received long jail terms for LSD import and sale.

Many American Indian delegates expected to stay on Alcatraz through Christmas. Israeli air raids on Egyptian targets resume on the Suez Canal. The fifth Arab summit in Rabat fails to unite the region.
