President Nixon plans a nationwide televised address to refute charges of knowing about the cover up and to appeal for public support. He will issue a lengthy white paper and acknowledge hindsight on warning signals while White House aides prepare the report and speeches.

Eight persons appeared on criminal charges in Tehama County Superior Court before Judge Noel Watkins. Clyde Hanna, 33, from Mesa, Arizona, pleaded guilty to forging a $30 Holiday Market check and was sentenced to one year in jail with three years probation and Crystal Creek Rehabilitation Center as recommended. Dickie Puckett, 20, Red Bluff, was jailed 30 days with time served, three years probation, and ordered to restitution for burgling Oak Glen Store. Wesley McDonald, 21, Los Molinos, was sent for a 90 day diagnostic study after pleading guilty to burgling the Los Molinos Lumber Yard. John Droddy, 36, Corning, was ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation by two appointed doctors.
Corning City Council approved a new 4,800 square foot library building at an estimated 120000, with 60000 from Tehama County revenue sharing funds and the city covering the rest. The plan includes parkland on city property for future expansion and bears support from the Friends of the Library and local officials.
