Associated Press dispatch from Goree Knox Co describes last night's rain wind and hail tearing through the area. About 2,000 bales of cotton destroyed and cattle feared killed. Three inches of hail littered the ground and west side windows of homes shattered.
A Texas sophomore, Wallace Montgomery, 23, was shot in the arm during a hazing expedition at Tulane University. The assailant, C. L. Botto, a freshman from Vicksburg, Mississippi, fired the shot late last night, leaving Montgomery painfully wounded.
Bulgarian forces deliver a tremendous victory against over 200,000 Turks after three days of fierce combat at Luleburgad. The Bulgarian army routs Turkish cavalry in pursuit, signaling broad intervention.
British dispatches from October 31 report the Bulgarian army encircling Adrianople after three days of fierce fighting. Earlier, Sofia announced a decisive defeat of 200,000 Turkish troops at Luleburgas with heavy casualties and a pursuit by Bulgarian cavalry. Rumors claim Balkan allies may accept intervention and block Constantinople gains, while a Bulgarian aviator Po Ppoff reportedly was killed during the Adrianople action.
Fifty seven members of the First Baptist Church in Fort Worth withdraw their church membership under Pastor Rev. J Frank Norris. A resolution asking Norris to resign was not voted on. Among those leaving are Dr B H Carroll and wife and Judge R H Buck and family. The dispute centers on Norris’s leadership and accusations of arson surface in the controversy.
In Indianapolis on October 31, sensational testimony claimed Detective W J Burns was tipped off about the Los Angeles Times bombing within two weeks of the blast. Special Investigator Badorf said union secretary Herbert S Hockin admitted contacting Burns about the explosion.
Snow fell briefly in the Panhandle with green leaves coated and light ground cover in the morning. The day saw a rapid melt and a temperature drop to 50 degrees as a norther passed, with frost forecast for Thursday night.

Utica dispatch reports James Schoolcraft Sherman died at 9:42 p m at his home after a kidney disease and amyemic poisoning from Brights disease. Born Oct 24 1865 in Utica he served in Congress from 1887 and 1908 and became vice president in 1908. He was a Mason Elk Hamilton College trustee and family man with three sons. Col Roosevelt Taft and others sent condolences.
In San Antonio on October 31 a fire at the orphanage claimed three young lives. Francis O'Brien aged three, Charles Lotloch aged nine, and George York aged 12 were burned to death. Sister Farell, initially thought dead, survived with a broken back and is not expected to live. Funeral services with requiem and high mass were held this morning.
In Sydney on October 31 sixty prominent society women were fined for wearing hat pins that were too long. Most chose jail over paying the fines, reflecting a defiant stance in the social circle.
The Supreme Court yesterday put into effect its new rule known as substantial justice. It holds that no judgment shall be reversed on appeal and a new trial ordered for an error of law unless the appellate court finds the error denied the appellant’s rights in a way likely to cause an improper judgment.

In New York on October 31 Col. Roosevelt was greeted by a roaring crowd at Madison Square Garden. For forty two minutes he stood unable to hear the cheers and the chant We want Teddy rose above the din of songs and bands as the audience demanded his presence.
The jury in First National Bank of Lewisville v. G W Mullens et al was discharged after failing to agree. Also under study, Mrs Louella Gault et al v O P Poe began Wednesday afternoon and by 2 30 Thursday no verdict was returned. Jurors listed include Nat Wilks N E Fairman F S Wilson Z T Kerley B E McCrary and A M George.
The Denton Ui and Gas Co has a powerful rotary oil rig at the depot. It will begin work soon at a location to be determined, drilling to any reasonable depth.
In Washington on Oct 31 the Republicans received 153665.82 in campaign contributions this past week, raising total to 744688. Democrats during the last six days collected 136688.72 and borrowed 40000 to fund campaign plans.
A deed dated January 10 1862 transferring 40 acres from Aaron Dulaney and wife to Frederick Burns for 300 dollars was recorded this week. Two related deeds from Burns to James Milliken dated January 6 1865 and 40 acres sold to Jacob Cross in November 1866 for 200 dollars show depreciation likely due to the Civil War.
