Eighteen miners have died after a fire trapped fifteen workers in the Western Coal Mining Co. mine at Lehich near McAlester Oklahoma. The blaze began from a grease parcel at the shaft bottom and spread quickly, with ten bodies recovered last night and eight more found this morning. Several miners escaped to safety.
Paris February 23. Tom Farmer charged with killing Melt Acree at Clarkeville escaped last night by sawing the jail window bars and making a rope from a blanket. He had a prior escape attempt and was in the death cell. A $500 reward is offered for his capture.
