Fire at Teague wrecks twenty acres of facilities including woodwork, machinery, blacksmith and tin shops. Five locomotives destroyed. total loss estimated at five hundred thousand dollars. Local fire crews fought the blaze through the night.
TEAGUE Aug 26 About twenty acres burned and nearly a half million dollars in damage in Trinity and Brazos Valley railroad shops. The fire started in a storeroom at 2 am destroying the woodworking, machinery, blacksmith and tin shops. The roundhouse and power plant were saved by a heavy fire wall. Five locomotives burned. Payroll records for 500 employees were saved. The company will rebuild on a bigger scale. No injuries reported.
Mrs. John Moore of Orange aged 53 was instantly killed when two cars collided on the seawall boulevard and were hurled over the wall to the rip rap seventeen feet below. Eight people were aboard. two chauffeurs were arrested for speeding.
Maurice E. Mc Laughlin of San Francisco defeated R Norris Williams of Philadelphia three sets to one to win the National tennis championship in Newport.
Buxton England reports the death of Michael Maybrick aged 69, famed composer of the song Holy City. He was Florence Maybrick's brother in law and a noted musician.
In Kansas City on August 26 Ralph Perry head of the Municipal Pawnshop says relatives visiting often burden households. He notes at least a dozen people pledged jewelry in two weeks as meat and grocery bills mounted, urging residents to stay home to curb living costs.
