St Joseph Mo August 10 Wm J Bryan questions the aims of the Progressive party and doubts its permanence. He suggests the movement centers on one man and may reflect personal motives rather than lasting political reform.
Howard B. Ayres, a 1910 Texas University graduate and son of the former Austin Statesman editor, was found near a freight car in the yards with a shotgun wound to the head. He appeared to be dead or dying with severe facial injuries while no motive is known.
For July 1 187 bales of cotton were ginned in Texas the Cameron county reporting 252 bales the largest.
City health officer releases mortuary data for year ending June detailing 63 deaths with tuberculosis and pneumonia leading causes. Five typhoid deaths occurred, infant mortality nine percent, and a diphtheria spike limited by prevention efforts and antitoxin.
Details from USKUP Turkey report the August 2 massacre in Ketschana where more than 140 Bulgarians were killed after two bomb blasts. Bands armed with guns pistols knives and clubs overwhelmed the streets while Turkish officials watched, and later Turkish troops conducted house to house searches driving many Bulgarians from their homes.

The Old Settlers' reunion Finance committee met Saturday at 1 PM to map a $700 target from subscriptions to fund meals for about 8000 attendees at the August 23 and 24 picnic. President Taft announced he would sign the Senate bill governing the Panama Canal. The measure prescribes use of the waterway by railroad owned ships and grants free tolls for American vessels.
