New Orleans April 29 dispatch reports the return of the waters through the Red River area causing a rapid rise at all points south of the river. Authorities monitor flooding risk as river levels climb.
A cyclone in the East Texas area left fatalities in Tatum near Longview and Hamlet near Texarkana as the storm moved through the region. Local authorities assess damage and missing persons as residents seek safety.
Associated Press dispatch from Longview reports a Sunday storm in Gregg and Bowie Counties injuring many in Tatum. The seriously hurt include Mrs. Ed Welsh and her four year old, both blown 5068 yards, with other victims such as Mac Dunne the banker and Mrs. James Waldron. Two churches, the gin, Santa Fe station, First State Bank and two residences were destroyed along with fifteen stores and homes. Homeless sought refuge in box cars as debris blocked a railroad track.
A large crowd greeted the junior senator at the depot and escorted him to his hotel amid a lively arrival. Local officials and supporters described the reception as enthusiastic and orderly.
Denton is formally entered in the Holland Magazine clean-up contest. May 16 is set for a city wide clean-up with municipal and chamber groups backing a bid for the $500 prize for the cleanest city in the state. Mayor Bates proclaims May 16 a general clean-up day and urges curbside collection and burning of trash on premises.
Denton citizens greeted Senator Joseph W. Bailey on his Denton visit, with bands and a large crowd at the depot. He praised local colleges and schools, urged education and voting reforms, and promised to return this summer for more community ties. He spoke at the C I A and by the Harrison Theater tent, noting Denton’s growth and the importance of education.
In 1882 the Denton community announces that every accommodation consistent with good banking extends to its customers, signaling a customer friendly banking policy.
In Boston on April 29 Col. Roosevel t prepared to reply to President Taft s statement denying he had approved Roosevelt s decision to delay prosecuting the harvester trust. Roosevel t wired former cabinet members Cortelyou and Bonaparte to recall the special cabinet meeting.
Bon not leader of an automobile gang and Dubos an anarchist were shot dead in a Paris encounter. Police, troops, and a large crowd watched as the garage where rebels hid was blown after hours of resistance. Bon not and Dubos died. Bonnot captured alive but died en route to hospital.
A weekend tornado killed at least 41 people and injured around 100 across northern Texas and Oklahoma. Heavy rain and hail brought five inches of precipitation while streams rose. rural telephone lines are down and rescues are hampered, making exact losses unclear for days.
New Orleans weather report says tonight will be fair and warmer. Tuesday is expected to be generally cloudy and warmer with continued warm conditions.
Washington April 29 A civil anti trust suit aiming at the dissolution of the International Harvester company will be filed tomorrow in Minneapolis. The suit will be the culmination of an investigation extending over the past five years.
