Eighteen men died when the bark Mi mi capsized off the Oregon coast near Bay City. Four were saved, including Chas Fisher, president of an engineering firm, Russell Blackman, the company’s secretary, and two sailors. The vessel had just been hauled off the beach.
In the April 7 special election, J. P. Buchanan of Brenham defeated Judge J. C. Calhoun of Austin by about 1,500 votes to succeed Congressman A. S. Burleson.

Port Worth April 7 A morse over allowing his wife to earn their living drove Ralph Gustin insane Sunday detectives report. He bound her and poured acid in her eyes blinding her and then killed himself. He told Gracie she could sing on the streets and make a living for him.
The 1916 Democratic tariff bill, presented to Congress on Monday, would favor free wool and sugar imports. It promises relief on necessities and raises on luxuries, reflecting an effort to adjust duties for the times.
The House today saw a tariff revision plan that abolishes tariff on many food and clothing items, cuts bread costs, raises levies on luxury goods, and imposes a new income tax on incomes over $4000. Sugar would be free in 1916 and wool import restrictions begin immediately. The measure also bans aigrets and many feather decorations for women's hats.
