Directed Verdict Favors Defendant in Insurance Suit
A Fayette Circuit Court jury directed a verdict for Metropolitan Life Insurance in the case of Louise T. Hudson versus the company over a policy issued to Harry Hudson. The policy provided double the $750 amount for accidental death. Hudson died in an explosion at Gauley Bridge tavern two years ago, with owner Mary Dye also killed. The insurer had refused payment citing a death by own action clause. The trial ended with the verdict directed in favor of the defendant. The article also notes the death of 12 year old F W Sawyers of Hinton after surgery in Charleston. He was born in 1938 and survived by a sister, paternal and maternal grandmothers, and attended West Virginia University for a year and Davis and Elkins College for another. The funeral arrangements are listed.
