Second Advance of Polio Fands Needed Piney View Tot Stricken

A Piney View family faces mounting polio bills as a second child from the Namorial Hospital is stricken. Donations to the Infantile Paralysis Foundation and the local chapter, led by Mrs. Price, seek $4,000 to cover care costs. Ronald Criddle, a three-year-old son of Charles Evans Criddle, rushed to Marmet Hospital, highlighting the county’s rising polio burden and depleted chapter funds.

$550 Awarded for Raising Dwelling

Circuit court jurors awarded Andrew Mangini of Allen Junction $550 in his breach of contract suit against Gaber Gombos and wife of Beaver. Mangini sought $600 for raising the Gombos home nine feet for a store room. the defendants claimed non fulfillment and no basement construction. The $15,000 damage suit of Nancy Lou Cameron against Raleigh Coca-Cola Bottling Works and I W Stover, set for hearing yesterday, was settled out of court. Cameron alleged that on Oct 18, 1947, while riding in Dorothy Burke's car near Mabscott, Stover caused a collision with the Burke vehicle resulting in permanent injuries.

Trusty Given Six Months for Escape

Donald Covey of Mabscott received six months for escaping from Raleigh County jail where he was serving 12 months for manslaughter. Covey fled Aug 23 as a trusty and was captured at his home by Deputies Gilxerson and Hutchins. Funeral attendees included Tilden Hendricks and Woodrow Hendricks for HH Mullins executor James A Campbell. County suit of $10,000 filed by Madison Bell prosecuting attorney against Beckley city and Beckley National Bank over a fall on a sidewalk in front of Vogue, bank-owned, in September last year. A $500 suit by E E Dillon against Charles Watson and D J McGuire of Charlotte for property damages from an auto accident.
