Fayetteville Man Added to Staff of Special Inspectors for State Mine Dept

Fayetteville man Frank Simms joins a six member team of special inspectors for West Virginia State Mine Department. The new inspectors train in collecting rock dust samples to speed lab testing for mine safety. Mines Chief Arch J. Alexander says the program aims to reduce slate and roof fall accidents and coal dust explosions.

Henley Funeral Set for Sunday

Final services for Pvt. Wilfred M. Henley of Fayetteville will be at Pleasant View Cemetery Gatewood at 2 p.m. Sunday with Dr. James F. Frame officiating. Amer. Legion Post 149 will be in charge. Henley was killed in France on August 9 1944. He is survived by his parents two children one brother eight sisters and a number of relatives. The body will be at Dodd Funeral Home until the service. The article notes the first color printing on a rotary press in America by the Chicago Inter Ocean in 1892.

Funeral services tentatively planned for Sunday afternoon for W. J. White, Fayetteville merchant and former Fayette County deputy sheriff, who died suddenly from a heart attack. Rites by Rev. C. W. Police Report Details Auto Thefts and Thefts in Mullens

Mullens police report a series of car thefts and theft attempts. A 1934 black Plymouth was stolen from near the Elmore roundhouse, and a 1936 Plymouth coupe was recovered abandoned on Bud Mountain. A dump truck was stolen near the city jail but later found. A local youth reported his bicycle stolen on Wednesday night. Authorities urge motorists to lock their doors.

Oak Hill Women’s Club to Furnish Lunch for Child

The Oak Hill Woman’s Club plans a free lunch for a child during the school season and appointed Mrs. Sandy Orwell to oversee devotional services at the next Senior Woman’s Club meeting set for October 12 at city hall. A $5 contribution was given to the Oak Hill Fire Department for an iron lung. Mrs. Goldie Price and Mrs. Wasda Farrish were named delegates to attend the district meeting in Charleston on October 8.

Whipple Miner Injured in Mine Accident at Whipple

Joe Lopes of Whipple was injured in a slate fall at the New River Company mine in Whipple. He is hospitalized at Oak Hill Hospital and reported resting comfortably with back injuries after Tuesday’s incident.
