Lawyer Claims Youth Coerced Into Confession
In Atlanta a court appointed attorney seeks a new trial for a 21 year old West Virginia convicted murderer contending his confession was coerced. Roy Dale Chatterton and Woodrow Whitman, both Huntington residents, were sentenced to die for the Lafayette Ga textile executive killing during a hitchhike robbery. The appeal cites a taped confession and denial by the FBI of inducing confession. The Georgia Supreme Court heard arguments and will rule in weeks.

Trucker Appeals Insurance Case In Ritchie County Suit
Carroll Jackson, a Ritchie County truck operator, appealed to the West Virginia Supreme Court after a circuit ruling in favor of Nationwide Mutual Insurance. Jackson argues he was covered by $100,000 liability insurance when his truck hit a car driven by Joseph Gambino III, injuring Gambino and his parents who sought $21,000 in medical expenses. Nationwide contends it is not liable because the truck was not operated as a motor carrier at the time and the policy limits coverage to motor carrier use.
