Linda Gayle Thompson 13 of Sandyville formerly of Tams Crab Orchard and Beckley was among six youths killed instantly near Ripley Monday night in a car truck crash. Survived by parents Ronald and unnamed mother, a brother Ronnie, a sister Melanie, and several aunts in Beckley Crab Orchard Jumping Branch areas. The group had attended a 4H meeting and were awaiting a PTA meeting when the accident occurred.
Governor Underwood blasts the Legislative Auditor's Office for insinuating illegal SRC expenditures without proof. He demands Auditor Koontz be dismissed unless he reveals factual backing, and asks the Joint Committee on Government and Finance to clarify the insinuations. The governor says the report overemphasized minor issues and ignores a broad financial analysis.
Plant City Florida AP reports gale winds from Hurricane Donna swept Plant City as Mrs George Friend gave birth to a daughter. On Tuesday the radio station manager and the father agreed on the name Donna Gale Friend for the newborn.

In Raleigh County Circuit Court Judge Norman Knapp continued Route 16 condemnation proceedings citing newspaper publications about the $36,000 award to Mr. and Mrs. Joe D Antonio for property on South Oakwood Avenue.
