William A. McCune, 58, of Oak Hill, died at Charleston General Hospital after a nine month illness. Employed by the State Road Commission, funeral arrangements are incomplete.
Oak Hill senior club names delegates Mrs. Ollie Blake Mrs. Wanda Farrish Mrs. Hattie Biggs and Miss Nora Burruss to attend the district convention in Charleston on October 4. The selection followed a meeting at Mrs. Lundy O'Dell’s home. The group also planned a rummage sale to aid an Oak Hill boy who is ill.
Paul Lawrence of Montgomery files for an injunction against the city and Montgomery Park Association to allow Negro residents to buy pool tickets and use a city pool funded by a tax issue. He alleges about 600 Black residents are barred and that no facilities exist for his race. Defendants include Mayor R. M Holstine, city council members, Montgomery Park Association president F B Eberhart and secretary Dorothy Hall.
Mount Hope Lions club honored President George Williams at a picnic dinner on the club house park lawn. About 145 members attended the meeting with Okey L. Patteson, executive assistant to Governor Clarence Meadows, as a guest. Picnic committee members were Russell Patteson, Tom Weichel, Dwight Warnock, Charlie Evans and Sanford Fox.
Colonel Hubert Stark director of the state aeronautics commission praised the Oak Hill airport for future enlargement possibilities after inspecting the facility yesterday. He also commended airport manager W H Booth Jr for improvements since his visit earlier in the summer.
Pfc Robert E Pate son of N A Pate of Simmerlee recently completed the military training program with the First Cavalry Division now on occupation duty in the Tokyo Yokohama area He is assigned to C Troop 1st Squadron 12th Cavalry Regiment and has served overseas since December 1946 His intense training has made him highly efficient at his duties.
Mrs W C Bailey Jr took office as president of the Pineville Woman's Club and presided over her first meeting during a picnic at Palisades Park. Twenty five members and guests attended the social and business session following the outing.
Army Corps of Engineers selected Beckley hospital designs for display at the National Museum in Washington. Charleston architects Tucker and Silling said the exhibit illustrates Army Navy and other federal works projects. The same plans will be used for a 200 bed Veterans Hospital in Clarksburg with minor terrain changes. Both hospitals estimated at 4 million dollars with work to start at Beckley in 1948 when weather allows.
Six women identified as Elsie Heath Edith Hicks Mildred Dunkley Virginia Coley Ruth Lafferty and Pauline Brannon were fined 50 and costs and sentenced to six months in jail for using the Arlington Hotel on Main Street for prostitution. Three men Mack Thompson William Sears and Cecil F Christian waived preliminary hearings on grand larceny charges after a raid prompted by Fred Alexander of Rainelle reporting $200 missing.

Bruce Clarke Hartley, a 16 year old student son of Mrs Jennet Clarke of Highland Avenue, is treated at Taylor Hospital for a broken right elbow from a touch football at the high school. His sister Joan was treated last week for injuries from a car accident.
Mullens Lions will hawk soft drinks popcorn and other refreshments at tonight's Mullens vs Sophia gridiron tilt to replenish the club treasury. A temporary concession agreement is in place pending Mullens Athletic Board action Monday on a permanent arrangement.
Oak Hill owned and ridden horse Red Flash owned by W P Newland won the pleasure class and the cup at the Logan Horseshow on September 9. Henry Hall also owned by Newland earned fourth in walking stakes. Ribbon Man ridden by Julius Blake took second in the five gaited class.
Army Air Corps private Sun Soldier Sun of Oak Hill Hospital in New Mexico had his hand amputated after a train accident at Mount Hope around 7 30 last night. He was treated at Oak Hill Hospital.
Henry Allen Mills, 46, of Barker's Ridge, was killed Wednesday in a slate fall at the Stephenson mine of Buckeye Coal and Coke Company. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. at Sand Gap School with burial at Shrewsbury Cemetery. The family delayed arrangements to reach stepson Hobart England on the West Coast. he cannot attend due to transfer to the Marshall Islands.
Oak Hill High School principal Joe Oliver spoke at the Lions Club dinner at Hotel Hill praising the club for help with academics and urging continued support for sportsmanship at football and athletics. Ernest Lively and Joe Jarrett provided piano selections. John Frisk announced a zone meeting for clubs in Sophia Beaver Beckley Oak Hill Mount Hope Wi nona to be held at Mount Hope Lions Hall on September 18. The next Lions gathering features a spaghetti dinner at Moro Pantry on September 18 with guests Claude Singer and Russell Lively.

John J. Marland 64 brother of J W Marland Raleigh- Wyoming Mining Co supervisor at Glen Rogers died at his home at 10 p m after a month long heart condition. A native of Illinois he worked for the Raleigh- Wyoming Mining Co about 15 years. Survivor: wife Clara mother Elizabeth Marland Spartan Illinois three sisters Sara Cristman Spartan Ill George Hacker Lacon Ill and Mrs Charles Thomas Chillocothe Ill. Ken Cook of Mullens, aged 29, died this morning at Raleigh General Hospital. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs Ken Cook. The body will remain at Robertson-
Mullens Rotary Club heard attorney Mullens-Ray Toler discuss atomic structure as taught in high school. The talk recalled his Wyoming county school days and teachers including John D. Farmer. Guests included Jack Feller, Moran Avenue student at WVU, and visitors Bob Giles White Sulphur James Parry Millersburg Ky and Midshipman William Grigg visiting local residents.
