Fire destroys Apine Inn on U.S. Route 1921 near Shady Spring
Damage estimated at 60 000 dollars after a morning blaze at the Apine Inn on U S Route 1921 near Shady Spring. Fire Chief Bernard Marlin said owner Bruce Massey set the loss, including building and equipment, at 60 000 dollars. The structure, rebuilt in 1941 after a prior fire, is under a sub lease from Molly King to Massey. Firefighters lacked a nearby hydrant and fought the blaze with limited water and a held-up supply from No 2 Sea Hag. Only two cars were salvageable. The inn reportedly carries about 10 000 dollars in insurance and Mrs Farley could not be reached for comment.
