Funeral services for Mary Ann Sutton two day old daughter of Mr and Mrs Herman Sutton of Eccles will be held this afternoon at 2 pm at Mount Tabor Church. Rev B C Jennings will officiate with burial in Calfee Cemetery Mount Tabor. Surviving are the parents grandparents Mr and Mrs Edward Cox of Eccles and John Sutton paternal grandfather of Eccles. The body will lie in state at Calfee Funeral Home until the service.
William Farley Porter of Dunbar, 29, held in Mountain Home Idaho, fled after posting $5,000 bond on a break in and entering charge for Embee’s store theft. Porter and co defendants Dewain Buford and Robert Roy Taylor were indicted. a mistrial occurred in Buford’s case before Taylor’s. Authorities plan travel to retrieve Porter.
Last rites for Charles Edward Pepper a 16 day old son of Mr and Mrs Charles Pepper of Johns Town Road Beckley will be held at the residence this afternoon at 2 oclock Burial will be in Toney s Cemetery Calloway Heights The infant died yesterday at 1030 am of an enlarged liver at home survived by two sisters Barbara Ann Pepper and Eva Jane Pepper
James Miles of Christiansburg Virginia has waived preliminary hearing and is jailed on charges of breaking and entering and auto theft. Police say he was taken into custody in Christiansburg and returned to Beckley for a hearing after allegedly breaking into Hall Chevrolet in Sophia and stealing a car plus $70 in cash.
The Lew Sheffler Post No 4269 VFW reports plans for a women’s auxiliary to aid veterans. It will include mothers wives widows sisters and daughters of service members with a focus on nonpartisan support and promoting veterans legislation. A fall 1947 dance on October 4 is planned with expected strong turnout. Members urged to renew membership cards starting October 1. Meetings set for the second and fourth Wednesdays at the Memorial Building.
The state will seek the death penalty for Mark McCauley, a Davis strip miner, held in Clarksburg on charges connected to the killings of two West Virginia officers. Prosecutor Vernon Rankin said McCauley admitted slayings of State Police Sgt. Joseph Horne and Sheriff DC. Gay Horvakter after a truck theft arrest.
