Joint funeral services are planned Tuesday afternoon for Charles William Kirk and his daughter Nancy Louise Blake, murdered by Roy Lee Blake who died by suicide after the slayings. Kirk, 52, a timber worker, and Blake, 19, were members of Cotton Hill Baptist Church. Survivors include spouses, children, siblings, and grandchildren. Funeral arrangements list Dodd-Payne and Ritchie Johnson as funeral homes with services at Cotton Hill Baptist Church in Beckwith.
Creed Farm Miller 52 of 302 Barr St died Sunday at 1 pm while walking along the Beckley By-Pass. Heart attack listed as cause. Born October 13 1909 in Fayette County son of John Walter and Roda Ellen Dickens Miller. Mrs Rosie Slater 70 of 131 Washington Street died early today in a local hospital. The body is at the Trent and Durgan Funeral Home pending completion of arrangements.

Leander Walker of Oceana died at 9 am at his home after a heart condition. Born in Baileysville on June 14 1903 he was the son of William and Nancy Lester Walker. Survived by Kathryn Collins Walker three sons Jessie and Earnest in Oceana and Douglas overseas with the Army a daughter Christine Hager of Oceana three brothers Kenneth Verner Van Guvan Wirt Baileysville and four sisters Rosa Mullens Davy Hazel Davis Hanover Dorba Morgan Coal Mountain Dorothy Mullens Nel- Ee. The body is at Evans Funeral Home in Oceana.
The infant son of Carlos J. and Wilma Cook Greene dies at birth. Graveside rites were to be held at 17 a.m. today in Davis Cemetery Mount Tabor with Dr James W Witterspoon in charge. Arrangements by Keyser Bryant Funeral.
Mrs Hazel Eve Hairston aged 46 of 319 G Street Beckley will be buried at Green-Wood Memorial Park after services at Central Street Church East Beckley at 3 30 p m Tuesday conducted by Rev Edward Abram. She died Friday.
The West Virginia Education Association blasts the State Board of Education for hasty early entrance rules. They call for a one year experimental period to study effects and may seek legislative delay to allow principals and first grade teachers to adjust. The policy lets six year olds born between November first and January 31 start school with proof of mental age six and social maturity.
West Virginia University will organize a 7 pm extension class in Spanish titled La Lengua Practic a in the Vocational Building. Three deaths are linked to separate incidents in West Virginia. Crotty, 20, from Matoaka died when his car hit a parked vehicle and crashed into a tree near Ivydale on West Virginia Route 4. Liston, 59, of Terra Alta, died from injuries after a tractor rollover near Terra Alta. A 12-year-old boy, Kenneth Hicks, was struck by a car near Gary, and Catherine Orem, 32, of Parkersburg drowned after falling from a pleasure craft on the Ohio River near Parkersburg. FAA officials said two private airplanes overdue from London Kentucky to Harrisburg Pennsylvania landed safely at Lancaster Pennsylvania. One craft a single engine Mooney Mark 21 was overdue and flown by a man identified only as Hoffman who departed London around 315 a.m. Sunday.

Mrs Beulah Treadway 32 waived to the Raleigh County grand jury on a felonious assault charge after authorities say she shot her estranged husband Robert Treadway in Whitesville. He received treatment for a gunshot wound to the right thigh and was listed as in fair condition at Charleston Memorial Hospital. Deputy Asbury said the couple had been separated for two months and a dispute over altered checks led to the shooting after he allegedly attacked her and her mother. Police booked her on the felony assault charge and scheduled a hearing before Justice C E White at Colcord.

He will conduct district wide studies with District IV and V staff. He holds a WVU bachelor’s degree and a Michigan University master’s in forestry.
