The labor regulation bill, a landmark of 1959, is expected to pass the House and go to President Eisenhower. The Senate approved the compromise 95 to 2 after more than eight hours of debate, governing union finances elections and officer conduct, with title seven amending Taft-Hartley to curb boycott powers and pressure NLBR jurisdiction.
Washington AP says the House completed congressional action on the labor controls bill and sent it to the White House. President Eisenhower is expected to sign it.
Senators Morse and Langer opposed the bill in a debate noted for criticism of unions while Kennedy praised the package as the only attainable compromise. McClellan called the measure a fine reward after years of work, and Goldwater urged it as a strike against racketeering in the labor movement. Kennedy warned against states misusing the bill’s no man’s land provision.
Georgia Marguerite Kincaid age 47 of 126 Allen Ave. died Thursday night after a heart attack. Born August 14 1912 in Fayette County she was daughter of James F. and Cynthia White. Surviving are three brothers and four sisters. Funeral at 1 p m Sunday at Pesce Chapel Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home. Burial Beelick Family Cemetery. Pallbearers named.
In Malden Massachusetts two stars stage a backyard bikini ballet on the back lawn despite neighbor complaints. Dottie Ferragamo 33 and her mother Mary De Marco 55 plan exotic dances under the stars with a coking lights show and an iconograph.
At Edwards Air Force Base California the X-15 rocket plane aborted its first power flight after roughly an hour of ascent. Pilot Scott Crossfield jettisoned fuel and the two aircraft returned safely to earth. The trouble was not immediately identified.
John Melton Harrah 63 died in a Becley hospital at 4 50 p m Friday. He was a farmer and is survived by his wife Vivian. The body was taken to Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home Lewisburg.
At the Leipzig Autumn Fair Communist East Germany touts a square beer bottle that may double as a brick when empty with the slogan Build your house with beer. Brewery reps seek an American partner to share the costly promotion.
Laos appealed to the United Nations for troops to repel Communist attacks. Britain supports UN action if aggression is proven. Laos accuses North Vietnam of aiding Laotian rebels as fighting began after shelling from across the border. The appeal was sent to UN Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold and will go to the Security Council, with possible General Assembly consideration if vetoed. Presidents Eisenhower and Prime Minister Macmillan discussed the crisis in talks last weekend.
Secretary of Labor James P. Mitchell declares the 52 day steel strike at a critical point and accuses both industry and union of shirking responsibility while signaling tough negotiations ahead. A separate batch of reports covers vaccine theft and recovery at the University of Montreal, police killings in Seattle, a Michigan arrest linked to a missing trooper, FBI kidnappings in Maryland, Senate civil rights delay, and local crime briefs.
In Chicago and across 34 cities unions struck Swift and Co and Wilson in pursuit of higher wages and benefits. Wilson strike paused after joint talks. Armour and Co recently agreed to wage boosts, signaling further industry-wide gains as federal mediators push talks. The unions accuse Swift of arrogant, adamant proposals while Swift counters that a prior understanding halted new bargaining until September 8.

Mrs Hat tie Willis, 84, has a serious illness prompting calls to Beckley from E J Willis of Ashland Kentucky and Cecil Bartlett of Eskdale. Mrs Willis suffered an attack at her daughter C Lewis’s home in Daniels and is listed in fair condition at Beckley Hospital.
Eisenhower and French President de Gaulle issued a joint statement after two days of talks in Paris. They reported agreement on West Berlin handling and said a Western leaders summit with Khrushchev should occur only if definite progress is possible. De Gaulle planned to speak on Algeria, signaling possible convergence on U.S. role.
Eisenhower arrives in Scotland for a brief rest after a Western Europe mission. He will stay at Culzean Castle near the 6,690 yard Ailsa course, joined by Ian Marchbank, James P. Gray, and Brig. Gen. Sir James Gault for golf and leisure.
Two Raleigh County men Dennis Honaker and Freddie Honaker of Arnett were jailed at 4:22 am on moonshine possession and intoxicated charges awaiting hearings. Lee Cook, Dorothy, jailed 8:37 am on petit larceny. Beckley Charlie Hill jailed 12:15 am on being drunk and resisting arrest. Harley Workman jailed 11:05 pm on breach of peace. A Sophia man moved to Huntington after a Mental Hygiene Board hearing. charged with drunk driving.
Clendenin resident Hansfor King, 65, died at a local hospital early Friday. Survived by his wife Ora, King’s body was sent to Hess and Harper Funeral Home in Clendenin.
Earl Curry Jr withdraws the warrant against Island Creek Coal Co over alleged litterbug law violations after sludge dumping beside a Wyoming Mine road. Curry cites legal hurdles and hints cleanup efforts will continue with a push for stricter litterbug laws.
Beckley brothers James Anthony Moore, 3, and Beverly Jo ann Moore, 5, are now confirmed probable polio cases at Beckley Memorial Hospital, after earlier being listed as suspects. Raleigh County has three confirmed polio cases. a fourth suspected case proved to be tonsillitis.
Raymond Russell McClure 61 of Beckley died in a local hospital at 1 50 am after a long illness. Born March 18 1898 in Welch he was a retired miner, former deputy sheriff in Wyoming County and WWI veteran. Survivors include wife Pearl Brogan McClure two sons Harold Mabscott and George Elizabeth N J daughter Helen Savage of Elizabeth N J four sisters and a brother six grandchildren. Funeral services set at Church of the Brethren Crab Orchard with details to follow.
Albert James Underwood, 57 Tad, died in a local hospital at 11:30 p.m. Thursday. Alberta Underwood, a daughter, survives. Fiddlers and Frame Funeral Home, Belle, is handling arrangements.
Herbert Shumate 62 a Wyoming County pioneer and former Elmore Shop hostler for the Virginian died in Huntington hospital after a cerebral hemorrhage. Born November 6 1896 at Soulsville he served the Virginian 35 years until May 195? funeral set for 11 a m Sunday at Sweet Home Church Saulsville with burial in Saulsville cemetery. Survivors include wife Ella three brothers Virgil Ted Ben and four sisters Eva Cook Mae Belcher Perry Evans and Kelly Sizemore. The body to lie in Robertson and Foglesong Chapel Saturday then to church.
California man Cal J Tackett of San Diego pleaded guilty before Magis trate W A Burke to exposing and carrying a weapon. He was fined 50 dollars and jailed 30 days at Raleigh County Jail after arrest by state police at 425 p m Thursday. Another man Charles Wilburn of Crow posted 25 dollar bond for a City Police Court hearing after a hazardous driving citation at 950 p m Thursday by Beckley Police.
The FAA authorized night flights from the airport after check flights by FAA officials and Piedmont Airlines personnel. The first night service will include Charleston, Parkersburg, and Columbus with connections to Chicago and the West Coast, plus additional night routes to Winston-Salem and the Southeast. Final checks followed by Piedmont installing a ceiling projector light to assess cloud height at night.
