About 4000 people gathered at the Whitesville ball park for a Labor Day program by District 17 United Mine Workers. Raymond Lewis endorsed K. K. Hall for future office, praising his honesty and fairness and urging Boone County to back Hall. The event featured talks on mine safety, wage issues, and the impact of nonunion mines, with demonstrations by UMWA officials and a boxing match, rock and roll dance, and a street parade led by the UMWA color guard.

Theft Charges Placed Against Two Backus Mountain Juveniles
Two Backus Mountain youths were arrested Monday and charged with breaking and entering and theft. The 2 and 9 year old juveniles allegedly entered the Branch Fuel Co. store and supply house on Lawton Street, plus five Backus Mountain homes in August. They were blamed for broken school windows at Glen Dale and for stealing items including a flashlight, drinks, a hunting knife, pennies, and various tobacco and beer products. The youths face a Juvenile Court hearing before Judge Charles Garvin Jr.

Williams Flint of Oak Hill died at Oak Hill Hospital at 3 20 am Monday after a five year illness. The funeral will be at 3 pm Wednesday at Oak Hill Baptist Church with Rev Randolph Johnson officiating, burial in Right Lawn Memorial Park. He was born March 1 1873 in Summers County and was a retired carpenter. Survivors include his wife Anna D Thomas Flint, four brothers Ralph in Columbus Ohio Clete in Warren Mich Frazier and Pearlie Flint both of Charleston one sister Mrs Della Thomas and Mrs Myrtle Woodyard both of Lorain Ohio and Mrs Gertrude Meadows of Parkersburg one daughter Mrs Mary J Birt of Oak Hill three sons Eugene P Williams C Flint and Arthur Ned Flint all of Oak Hill 13 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. The body will be removed from Thomas Funeral Home in Oak Hill to the residence at 4 pm today.

Herman Fincher, son of Mr. and Mrs. Pullen Wooding, earned a four year scholarship from the State Board of Education. A 1947 Collins High School graduate, he led DuBois High School activities as class president, student council president, library club leader, and Glee Club member. Funeral Today for Wreck Victim John Elton Baker
Funeral services for John Elton Baker 28 of Cleveland Ohio will be held at Scarbro Baptist Church at 2 30 p m Tuesday with burial at High Lawn Memorial Park Oak Hill Military graveside rites will follow. Baker served with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg and died from chest and head injuries in a car crash Saturday night south of Mount Hope. The body was moved from Tyree Funeral Home Oak Hill to his aunt Mrs Andy Sunday in Scarbro for viewing then to the church an hour before services.
