Social Security Amendments Benefit WWII Veterans
World War II veterans gain 160 dollars per month for each month of active service under the 1950 amendments to the Social Security Act. Roy I. Smith of the West Virginia Department of Veteran Affairs notes these wage credits affect retirement and survivor payments for vets and their families. Applies to those with at least 90 days active duty between Sept 16 1940 and July 24 1947 not dishonorably discharged, unless other federal retirement benefits apply. Two action points exist: at age 65 to claim benefits and for survivors after a veteran’s death to contact a Social Security Office.
