Byrd urges release of any discrediting material before election
West Virginia Congressman hopeful Robert C. Byrd pressed GOP leaders to publish any further letters or material aimed at discrediting him before the November vote. Byrd acknowledged a 1946 Klan-era letter but said he believed no such correspondence existed when he spoke pre primary. He challenged Raleigh County GOP chair Robert J. Ashworth to reveal all charges so voters may judge the facts, while outlining his willingness to defend himself publicly before election day.
