Pacific Northwest could power future with giant wind generators
OSU researchers led by Dr. E Wendell Hewson study a three year 414500 grant from private utilities to deploy 100 foot diameter aero generators along the coast. They say 12 knot winds could yield 10000 kilowatts, with winter coastal readings above 15 knots and historic gusts to 127 mph at the Columbia River mouth.

Wind power study eyes Oregon sites and coast gusts
Researchers in Oregon explore wind generated electricity in Corvallis and Portland during 1962 while noting an unofficial 200 mph Mt Heboon gust last year. The work stresses steady wind as key, ground placement matters, and wind could supplement but not replace nuclear or hydro if feasible.
