Blind Man Dies In Marlinton House Fire
A Marlinton resident, 57, burned to death in his home Thursday after a blaze that also damaged a nearby dwelling. Firefighters from Marlinton Volunteer Fire Department fought the flames aided by Rescue Squad, led by Fire Chief Harry Hockenberry. The victim, Roy Diggs of Durbin, reportedly lived alone. investigations point to a heating stove causing vents to fail. The body was transported to Smith Funeral Home in Marlinton.

Funeral services for Sidney E. Francis aged 85 of Lynca will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Free Church of God in Lilydale with Rev. Herbert Perry officiating. Burial follows in the family cemetery at Lynca. Francis died at 4 0 a.m. Wednesday at his home. He was the son of the late David and Elizabeth Francis. Survivors include his wife Cora Francis three sons Ernest of Glen Fork Charlie of Lilydale and Howard of Oceana five daughters Annie Blankenship Laura Brown Lily Griffivkk Della Cook and Fay Wurst Lorado two sisters Della Stewart of Matheny and Rosie Perdue of Mulins. Couple Wreck While Traveling To Hunting Party
A Wyoming County hunting trip ended in a car crash when James H. Anderson and his wife Elizabeth of Weirton were injured after their vehicle left Slate Route 1 Ti and overturned at Cabin Creek as they headed to Pocahontas County for a squirrel turkey hunt. Anderson with possible rib fractures and his wife with facial bruises were treated at Wyoming General Hospital. The accident occurred about 8:40 p.m. on a sharp curve.

Accidents Send Four To Hospital
Four miners and a timberman were injured in on the job incidents at area mines and a lumber site. Leonard Kade 37 of Petersburg lost part of a finger and suffered cuts while his hand was caught between mine cars at the Alpoca Mine. Marvin Mills 23 of Maben was bruised when a shuttle car struck his left leg at the Alpoca Mine. Sam Weaver 48 of Sophia sustained a compound fracture of the right index finger when a rail fell on his hand at Wyco. Johnny Combs 25 of Saxton a Raleigh County Lumber contractor employee, was admitted after cutting his left foot with an axe at work.

Two Mount Hope men Clyde Heath aged 45 and Frank North aged 47 appeared before Magistrate Virgil Lyons in Fayetteville. They pled guilty to stealing four mine frogs one guard rail one counterweight 40 angle bars and other scrap iron valued at 41 from Branch Fuel Company in Lawton. Deputies L W Fox Buddie Crouch and Fred O Boyle arrested them Wednesday. They received one day in jail and fines of 38 each.
