Mitchell Clay Memory Honored in Virginia Ceremony
The memory of Mitchell Clay who settled near Lake Shawnee will be honored this Saturday with remarks by Judge J. W. Maxwell and Judge W. A. Riffe at a monument unveiling on the Ed Cooper farm three miles from Narrows Virginia. Clay served in Captain Daniel Smith's militia during the Revolutionary War and family massacres in 1783 led to his move to Giles County where he died in 1812. Slayer of two step children ends life in cell
Ferrin Roland a 36 year old woodsman farmer who confessed twisting a wire around the necks of his two small step daughters and drowning them in a lake hung himself in his Pontiac Michigan jail cell. Left unguarded for a few minutes after booking he used strips from his mattress to form a rope and leapt from a cot to die. His neck was broken and a deputy sheriff found him dead after twenty minutes.
