Premier Ali Razmara announced a $25 million U S loan from the Export Import Bank to develop Iran's agriculture and roads under the seven year plan. British scientists plan to use heat from atomic energy piles to warm towns and industrial plants. Firefighters fought flames after outage on a high tension wire. home valued at 1800 dollars, nothing saved. Dews planned to visit his wife in Greenbrier County. Body removed to funeral home after being found around 1:30 a.m.
Guilty pleas accepted today by Judge W A Riffe in Raleigh County Criminal Court. Bruce B Turner for auto theft and Denver Brown for forgery pled guilty. Several cases held open or set for trial include Morrison, Smith, Shelton, Stover, Redden, McDaniel, Tzystuck, Ballard, Burgess, and Hughes with varied outcomes and dates.
An Army Engineer company has begun camp and road work 12 miles from Beckley on land owned by James T. McCreery Co. Inc. near McCreery. The Army plans to test pontoon bridges and has a 60 day period to decide on leasing or purchase. The site may be restricted to the public soon. E. T. McCreery, president, says no lease or purchase has occurred yet.
Casey Stengel, two time World Series winner, was rehired today as manager of the New York Yankees for two years. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
South Korean liberators seized Wonsan, a major port city on the Sea of Japan, after day and night street fighting, while U S First Cavalry units pressed a 25 mile front near Kaesong. Thousands of Red troops surrendered or fled as Allied forces push toward Pyongyang with plans to secure harbor, airport, and supply routes.
White House sources say President Truman will meet Gen. Douglas MacArthur in the Pacific for a conference of the United Nations forces. Details are under wraps, location unspecified, and an official announcement will follow. Floyd County Jailer Guy Horn learned from Williamson West Virginia authorities that Justice serves a 60 day drunkenness sentence in Mingo County jail. he had asked Mingo County jailer Elmer Cubine to detain Justice for Floyd County authorities.
The Budget Bureau announced a $580,271,835 reduction in non-defense appropriations for the fiscal year ending next June 30. President Truman approved the cuts, spread across 31 executive agencies from the $35,554,600,425 appropriations act.
