No incidents reported as federal troops man checkpoints, protect the campus, and maintain order.

The Beckley Exhibition Mine will be shown in a 15 minute TV program nationwide next spring as part of the Social Security Administration series Social Security In Action. A five man Baltimore crew films in Beckley with Crawford Wilson as narrator. The project aligns with a new people and places feature and bolsters the West Virginia Centennial ahead of the 1963 mine opening. Filming will occur largely at the Beckley Social Security office and the mine, highlighting mining history and safety.
UPI reports in Charleston that U S District Court heard a brief by NAACP attorney Willard L Brown alleging Raleigh County Board of Education omits and defies a January 10 1956 federal court desegregation order The suit on behalf of Gladys Taylor argues no desegregation plan has been produced and that the board maintains segregated attendance areas and continues discriminatory pupil assignments in preexisting schools.
Hollywood Florida UP I report Gov W W Barron signaled West Virginia could affiliate with a Midwest governors conference while keeping Southern Governors Conference membership. He stressed any drastic move is unlikely and noted Missouri also belongs to both groups. He invited 1963 conference to Charleston for centennial events and announced gold passes for members.

New York actor Frank Lovejoy aged 48 was found dead by his wife at the Warwick Hotel early today. Police attributed the death to a heart attack and said the couple had lived there about three weeks. Lovejoy, noted for strong masculine roles, recently starred in Meet McGraw on television and earned praise for The Best Man stage role two years ago.
University of Houston athletic director Harry Fouke said on Monday the school would rather play Saturday’s football game with Mississippi at Houston rather than Oxford. He doubted Mississippi officials know what to expect and noted the final decision rests with them. Fouke has been unable to reach Tad Smith.

A Bluefield West Virginia man died in a car crash that slid down an embankment north of Christiansburg Virginia. Shelby David Roach 38 was pinned in the flaming wreckage. His son Arthur David 17 and Maxine Higgins 28 were injured after the Jeep or car fell at the foot of Christiansburg Mountain along U S 11.
Members of the Gulf Woman's Club at the Centennial booth on Neville Street collected 52.90 on its first day in operation. Finance Chairman Mrs. George T. Lowry reported the amount.
State Natural Resources Director War den Lane urged a legislative subcommittee to tighten water pollution enforcement in West Virginia.
