Oak Hill Methodist Women announce the annual Thanksgiving service will be held at the Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Thursday with Rev. C. G. Eastwood delivering the sermon. December is observed as attendance month and a covered dish dinner for church circles follows at 6 30 p m Tuesday Dec 2. Approximately 50 members and guests attended the Monday meeting.

Princeton Bluefield attorney Walter Vergil Ross was appointed by Governor Okey L. Patterson to preside over Mercer County Criminal Court for the unexpired term. A Democrat with long service as Mercer County prosecutor and four terms in the state legislature, Ross also held posts including assistant tax commissioner and Home Owners Loan Corporation state manager. He is a World War I veteran, Franklin County Virginia native, Washington and Lee law graduate, and resides with his wife on Union Street Bluefield. They have a married son and daughter.

O A Sparks and Rev Stellie Parsons officiating. Burial follows in Cooper Cemetery Skin Fork near Windom. Born Sept. 16 1869 in Wyoming County he was survived by wife Elizabeth a son Harrison two daughters Lake and Stella two brothers Aaron and Harry and sister Rosa plus 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Body to be moved from Robertson and Forson Funeral Home to Adams residence at 11 a.m. Thursday.

Oak Hill Candy and nuts will be sent to the Odd Fellows Home for Children as a Christmas gift from Laurel Rebekah Lodge. At the Thursday meeting two new members were welcomed, Mrs. Betty Sue Miller and Mrs. Edith Martin, to be initiated December 19. Nineteen members attended and donated $9 to a needy family. Mrs. Nina Yates remains sick. Last week lodge members made 19 sick calls and five hospital visits.

Train and truck collision causes heavy damages at crossing
At Duncan's Crossing the Accident involved a Chemical Valley Lumber Co. truck driven by Roy Dolin and a train car backed across the crossing. Damages estimated over 3500 dollars with 2000 to the truck and 1500 to its cargo. S. Gwinn, a railway employee, was treated for injuries after being riding on the back of the train. Police noted the train may have lacked lights at the crossing. Truck cab had cleared the tracks just before the impact.

Three juveniles confessed to breaking into East End Elementary School Sunday night and are held in Fayette County Jail awaiting juvenile court action.
