Paving of Three Oak Hill Streets Delayed by Breakdown

The Appalachian Construction Company reports that paving on Highlawn Park Avenue Mahat Street and Wallace Street was halted today due to broken machinery. Superintendent P E Waugh says the streets are ready for hard tire and are expected to finish by tomorrow evening once repairs are complete. the contract was awarded by the City Council on November 6.

Newly Weds Feled at Shower in Ansted

Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Dunbar of Fayetteville were honored with a miscellaneous shower in Ansted hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Glen Humphreys. Dunbar recently married and has worked with the State Sentinel in Fayetteville after discharge. His wife is Jane Surpaugh of Beckwith, with a dessert course served to numerous local guests.

Mount Hope Man Injured in Slate Fall at Oswald Mine

OAK HILL The condition of Freda Thompson, 57, of Mount Hope, admitted to Oak Hill Hospital after a slate fall at the New Raver Company's Oswald mine, was described as serious. Officials said he sustained a skull fracture and body abrasions in the accident that occurred early yesterday morning. The patient was rushed to the hospital.

Man Fined Jailed For Having Knucks

In Fayetteville six month jail term and a $30 fine were imposed on Fred Warren Treadway of Oak Hill after a hearing before Justice of the Peace Virgil Lyons for carrying metal knuckles. Cleve Mann of Beckwith was fined $5 and costs on an assault and battery count. Jackie Propps of the Nutt fallburg section was fined $10 and costs for driving without a license and jailed for nonpayment. Basil McKinney paid $10 and costs after pleading guilty to assault and battery.

East Gulf Miner Critically Hurt

Henry Monk a miner at the East Gulf mine is in Beckley Hospital in critical condition after an accident yesterday at 9 30 p m. He was crushed between a cutting machine and the mine face sustaining possible brain concussion and serious chest injuries. Local medical staff report his condition as critical at noon today.

Man Paroled on Shooting Charge in Five-Year Probation

Mack Kennedy, convicted of firing into an automobile and wounding a motorist near Guyan, received a five year probation after a one to five year sentence from Judge D. M. Easley. Kennedy’s counsel sought probation with recommendation from probation officer L. A. Anderson. Judge Easley also granted several divorces in circuit court. Bud Man To Get Hearing Monday In Mullens

William Noon Jr a 21 year old Bud resident pleaded guilty to felonious assault and is jailed in Wyoming County awaiting a preliminary hearing set for Monday November 25 at 10 am. Cadle was injured in the Mullens jail altercation and hospital staff report his condition as improved. A baby boy named Justin Elliott Miller was born Friday at 12 30 pm to Mr and Mrs Eval Miller of South Mullens the couple's first child.

Negro Held on Felonious Assault Charge in Pineville

Charles Herman, a 16 year old Negro from Marianna, is jailed in Wyoming County on a felonious assault charge after an altercation at Holloway Drug Store that injured three people. Witnesses say he struck Howard Ellis with a whiskey bottle and threw a Pepsi bottle, as Ellis fled behind a counter. Ellis is being sought by police while Herman, previously released after a 90 day drunkenness sentence, awaits Grand Jury action.

Man Accused of Maiming Animals Released on Warrant

OCEANA Roy Belcher, 30, Clearfork farmer, arrested on a warrant by Tommy Short for maiming two animals. He was released from jail after two witnesses failed to appear. Magistrate Lee Tinbieg warned of further action but kept him for 24 hours awaiting testimony. The incidents involve a horse owned by Short and a mule owned by John Blakkinship.
