Postmaster Job Open in Herndon

Applications accepted until Dec. 10 for the fourth class Herndon postmaster position announced by the Civil Service Commission. The $254 yearly post has been filled since September by Miss Carol Murphy on a temporary basis, succeeding F. L. Blankenship who resigned after years in service. Applicants must reside in the post office territory and be at least 18.

Bud Youth Shot Hand Damaged In Hunting Accident

An 18 year old Bud youth, Norman Lane, was wounded Thursday afternoon while rabbit hunting with a hunting companion's year old brother. A gun discharged when the boy tripped the trigger, driving wood fragments into Lane's right hand and causing severe muscle and circulatory damage with two bones shattered. Lane walked to a neighbor for help before being taken to Wyoming General Hospital. He is a sophomore at Herndon High School and attends Wyoming County Trade School.

Funeral services for Joseph Banks 63 retired miner will be held Saturday at Mount Calvary Baptist Church Princeton with Rev L B Allen officiating. Burial at Rose Lawn Memorial Cemetery between Princeton and Bluefield. Born Charlottesville Va he lived in Alpeca and worked for Gaston Coal Co before retirement. Survivors include son Thomas Banks Mullens. Body to be moved from Lugo's Funeral Home Bluefield to church an hour before services.

Former Oak Hill Man Dies in VA Hospital

James Elmer Tony Smith Ir., 50, of Princeton, died at Beckley Veterans Hospital after a brief illness. Survived by two Oak Hill brothers Luther and Roby Smith. He lived in Oak Hill most of life, moved to Princeton ten years ago to run a recreation firm. Body at Seaver Mortuary, Princeton, pending arrangements.

WV Tech offers $150 scholarship for business education

A $150 scholarship is available next fall to a spring high school graduate from West Virginia interested in business education at West Virginia Institute of Technology. Eligibility requires WV high school graduation membership in FBLA and recommendations by the principal and club sponsor. Recipients are chosen by the Tech business administration faculty and the Tech FBLA executive committee.

Notorious Check Artist Speedie Sentenced in Fayetteville

Charles Speedie known as the traveler was sentenced to prison for check forgeries. He admitted passing about 300000 in bogus checks over a 13 year career. Speedie was arrested Sept 5 in a Cleveland suburb and traveled nationwide en route to Ravenswood after visiting Florida with the Burns family.

Mollie Smith Diesing 84 of Oak Hill Route 1 died at home after a ceer attack. Hester Bowl Victim Treated After Fall at Stevens Club

A 37 year old man injured in a fall at Welch's Stevens Club was treated for foot and hand injuries. He suffered lacerations and was examined by medical staff. Police reported no further hazards at the scene.
