Mingo sheriff appointment challenged in West Virginia case
The West Virginia Supreme Court was asked to void the May 2 1960 appointment of Thomas B Varney as Mingo County sheriff arguing the county court violated state law and court rules. The petition seeks to block Varney from replacing Howard B Chambers before the 30 day window for re hearing petitions ends and notes Chambers remains in dispute over in eligibility to run in the 1960 general election. The petition cites a prior ruling stating Supreme Court judgments are not final during the re hearing window and mandates will be issued after that period.

Glen Daniel Merchant Alfred Lucas longtime Raleigh County merchant and former Board of Education member died at 4 30 am after a five week illness. He was born March 16 1888 and married Bertie Richmond in 1910. Lucas ran a Glen Daniel grocery since 1927, farmed, and raised cattle. Survived by wife five daughters and four sons plus five sisters and three brothers.

New York United Press International reports that Lucy Ball, age 50, will marry Gary Morton in a modest ceremony next Sunday officiated by Dr Norman Vincent Peale. The event will be attended by Ball's mother and two children among friends. Ball met Morton during Wildcat on Broadway, with Paula Stewart introducing them. Ball and Desi Arnaz divorced in May after a 19 year marriage.
