Plan Girl Scout Drive Starts Monday in Raleigh County
The 5 p.m. Monday siren marks the start of the Raleigh County Girl Scout fund drive. Fathers with daughters will canvass doors from 5 to 7 p.m. with a $10,000 goal. Leaders include Mrs. E. M. Starr and Mrs. Carlton C. Sanders. They will appear Sunday at 2:15 p.m. on WOAY TV to discuss needs and Monday’s canvass. Scouts will attend Sunday services in uniform.

State Divides Utility Tax Checks To Cities And Counties
Checks totaling 6,909,875 were mailed by the state auditor to West Virginia counties and municipalities as advances on 1955 property taxes from public utilities. Beckley received 10,000 and Raleigh County 200,000. County distributions ranged from Kanawha 900,000 to Wirt 6,000 with several area localities listed. First half taxes were due Navy and 8,709,644 collected. second half due next spring.

Juveniles Arrested in Stoning of Bus
City police arrested two Beck ley juveniles Thursday afternoon in connection with the stoning of a Shady Spring High School bus on Halloween night. The youths face destruction of property charges and will be arraigned Saturday before Juvenile Court Judge Harry L. McCreery. Two SSHS girls suffered slight injuries from rocks. a bus window was smashed on S Fayette Street.

Forfeit Fines On Speeding Charges In Beckley Court
Raleigh Countians Steve Fekete Crab Orchard and Lottie Taylor 716 Lilly St forfeited $20 bonds Thursday night in Beckley Police Court on speeding. Mary J. Honaker 519 Temple St found guilty of permitting a dog to run loose and fined $10 by Judge Ed ward P Stansbury. Goldie Sonak testified Honaker's dog killed her cat. Honaker claimed the dog leaped from her car and into Sonak's yard. Henry Sonak said the dog had been in their yard several times. Honaker said she returned from the store when the dog jumped out. Honaker's husband complained of a cat meowing all night. Frank Graham Beckley pleaded guilty to driving without a city license and improper registration and was fined $25. William Smith Beckley fined $15 for defective equipment.
