President Johnson praised October’s 4.3 percent unemployment as progress toward full employment. The Labor Department reported the rate unchanged since August 1957, while economists debate the ideal level of joblessness as the nation seeks greater employment gains.
New Delhi reports accuse Pakistan and Communist China of a new plot as clashes erupt in Kashmir. Radio Pakistan claims 50 Indian troops killed in Khairatta sector with Pakistani forces forced to retreat after heavy counterattack. Prime Minister Shastri says Pakistan and China may be planning actions at their chosen time. Troops massed along Rajasthan as intrusions continue.

A 52 year old Vietnamese farmer Nguyen Van Chin from Long An Province became a walking bomb when a live grenade lodged in his back in Saigon. Surgeons, led by Maj. Gen. James W Humphreys, safely removed the egg shaped device amid protective measures. The rapid operation lasted 13 minutes from wake to final stitch.
In Can Tho near Saigon, Mme Ho Thi Que known as Tiger Lady of the 44th Vietnamese Rangers was shot and killed during a confrontation with her husband Maj Nguyen Van Dan after he allegedly paid attention to another woman. An inquiry was ordered to determine if charges would be filed. Que, 38, had become a symbol of courage marching beside her husband and wearing a steel helmet with her nickname.

A US spokesman identified North Vietnamese units as the 18th 95th and 101st regiments of the 325th division and the 32nd and 250th regiments. The 32nd and 250th were sent into South Vietnam since mid summer and are believed to operate in the Western Central Highlands. Vietnamese Army units found a Viet Cong prison camp in the Boi Loi Woods near Saigon, blasted by B52s this week. 10 prisoners were released after a guard was killed. Two caches of ammunition were found. In Chu Lai operation Black Ferret two guerrillas were killed and 13 suspects arrested. Other reports say little contact with the enemy in the past 24 hours. Air Force Navy planes attacked the Ron Naval Base and a highway bridge at Dien Bien Phu.

Congressman John M Slack announced the Labor Department approved funds under the manpower act to train 18 unemployed workers as welders. The Raleigh County Vocational Technical Center in Beckley will host a 22 week program with total cost 34727 dollars, including 24630 dollars in training allowances and 10097 dollars for training costs.
The Department of Labor approves extra funds for retraining. An 18 Bonatore Ieperial Wee nators program will run 22 weeks of classes under the expanded support.
