Varicose veins are removed only after leg ulcers have healed. Healing usually requires a prolonged bed stay. If ulcers persist after vein removal they may return. Early mobilization aids recovery, but an elastic bandage should be worn for two to three months post operation. Neglecting varicose veins can cause greater damage and prolong treatment.
