Danny Ray Frazier aged 13 died when a 22 caliber pistol discharged while seven children watched TV in Hopewell. Charles Lowder, 18, is charged with manslaughter and set for a June 10 preliminary hearing. he was released on $1000 bond. Danny was visiting relatives at his grandfather Sanford Frazier’s home.

The Beckley Brotherhood Committee of the Beckley Ministerial Association will meet a NAACP representative soon to discuss Negro issues in Beckley. Rev David L Smith, AME Chapel Raleigh pastor and Raleigh County NAACP president, called conditions deplorable and urged understanding while avoiding picketing. Dr Kenneth Swank, First Baptist pastor, said Negroes may freely worship there and whites should have the same freedom. Smith joined the association at today’s session.
